The Lakers defeat Lane in a great game, 88-80 for their first win this season.
The Lakers lost their previous game against Linn-Benton, but there is no doubt in our minds the Lakers were ready to play against the Titans from Lane CC in Laker territory. The Lakers defeated Lane during their preseason and didn't hesitate to beat Lane again today on January 16th, 2010.
The first half of play was an equal effort by both teams as the both offenses scored points and defenses managed to make plays. Lakers offense did an awesome job in keeping up with the Lane offense which was 15/33 in field goals. Laker's offense shot an amazing 7 three point shots in the first half, Ryan Flynn #32 had 6 total 3-point shots in the entire game. At the end of the 1st period, Lakers were down 37-34.
The second half of this intense basketball game was full of action from both teams. There is no doubt Lakers put on a good show for its fans/supporters. Lakers and the Titans were in range the whole game and the team's point margin never went over 10 points. Lakers did indeed play their hearts out and the win was enough to show the effort that was put on by these young SOCC athletes. Lakers offense was roughly able to put in 48.48% of their shots and the Laker defense rebounded 22 different times and scored 18 turnover points. At the end of the game the final score was Lakers 88-80 Titans. I was able to speak to Bari Mims #4 who scored 10 points and had 5 assists. In order to play as hard as tonight against Portland next game what needs to be done by your team, Bari said "We need to rebound, and play hard. Our defense needs to rebound, the offense will be there." The leading scorer for the game was Ryan Flynn #32 who played exceptionally well with 23 points and 2 assists. Please come out and support Laker Basketball next Friday, January 22nd 2010 here in Prosper Hall. Wear red as it is spirit week for SOCC. Good Job Lakers!
