SOCC Women's Basketball Season Opener Against Umpqua. 1-9-10
Lady Lakers played against Umpqua for their first official season game on January 9th, 2010. The Lakers had a good preaseason with a record of 6-6. Lakers shot 52.36% in Field Goals for the entire game. Brianna George #10 had an amazing game with 12 points, 1 assist, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals. Megan Halstead #44 was 4/4 with a total of 10 points. Unfortunately the Lakers weren't able to win their first game, but came very near with a final score of 61-76. Sierra Terrel-Perez spoke to me after the game, "Over all I think our team did a pretty good job of keeping up with their fast paced offense. We came out really strong and had solid defense. We worked very well together and kept the intensity up. We had a couple of spurts where we turned the ball over, but we worked as a team to try and make it up."
Lady Lakers go on the road on January 13th to play against Linn Benton. Please wish them luck and get ready for their next home game on January 16th, 2010. Please come out and support your SOCC athletics. -Abel Romo
