UPDATE ON KELCY McKENNA
After an illustrious athletic career at North Bend High School that included four OSAA tennis championships and two Oregon volleyball player-of-the-year awards, Kelcy McKenna is busy making a splash on the collegiate tennis team for the Arizona State Sun Devils. She finished her freshman campaign ranked 27th in the nation and was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) 2007-2008 West Region Rookie of the Year. In addition to earning the most wins on the team as a freshman (33), McKenna also found time to excel in the classroom receiving an ITA Scholar Athlete designation and 1st Team All Pac-10 Academic awards.

Kelcy McKennaConceivably her biggest collegiate tennis accomplishment to date came during the Riviera All- American Championships last fall. McKenna powered through the qualifying rounds and knocked off some of the top players in the country en route to winning the tournament. Her success at the All-American Championships earned her a spot on the United States Tennis Associtation (USTA) Collegiate Team. McKenna was able to travel with the top six college tennis players in the country to Poiters, France last December and compete in the International University of Tennis Championships. In France, the USA team competed against Belgium, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Montenegro, Switzerland, and Russia. Her sophomore season ended with even more accolades when Kelcy was named to the 2008-2009 All Pac-10 1st  teams for both tennis and academics. She also racked up her second ITA Scholar Athlete award and earned All-American honors in both doubles and singles. McKenna finished the season ranked 11th in singles and 18th in doubles with partner Micaela Hein.

Hoping to build on her previous success, Kelcy has spent the summer playing tennis tournaments throughout the country. As a member of the USTA Collegiate Team, McKenna earned births in many of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Challenger tournaments taking her to Wichita, Boston, Atlanta, and Seattle in addition to playing on the Pacific Northwest Open circuit. The hard work has paid off; she enters her junior season ranked 7th in the nation in singles and 12th in doubles with Micaela Hein. The Sun Devils open their season at the Cal Nike Invitational
October 2-4 in Berkeley, California.
