Contestants performed "Classic Hits" from the K-DOCK Radio Playlist when they competed in the fourth of the 9 week contest. Highlights included top performances by 14-year-old Destyni Fuller of Bandon performing a song by Bonne Tyler "It's A Heartache." Fuller finished fourth at the September finale last year. She beamed with excitement after taking the top spot that was her first ever. Also, in the top three was 13-year-old Thaddeus Miller of Bandon, who performed the Beatles classic "Can't Buy Me Love." Miller also won the "People's Choice" award from last week where he performed the country song "Sold" by John Michael Montgomery. Miller, who one a gift certificate from Benetti's Italian Restaurant, brought the house down several times while performing the song. This week, he drew the audience in showing his upbeat personality while inviting the audience to a ride on the Ferris Wheel at the end of the show. The audience laughed with him as he confessed it was something he'd looked forward to for three days! Maintaining her place as one to watch was 16-year-old Star Moralez who performed the contest's opening number; an Ike and Tina Turner classic "Proud Mary." Moralez, of Myrtle Point, has consistently placed at the top and was also a finalist and runner up in the 2008 contest. 16-year-old Sabrina Hines-Sharp of Coos Bay and 15-year-old Kara Shore of North Bend were eliminated from the contest. Sharp performed "I Honestly Love You" and Shore performed "I'm A Believer." They join 4 others, but will continue to perform on group songs that feature each contestant during the rest of the shows. Next week, those remaining in the contest will perform two songs. They'll tackle a song from the 80's and a Swing or Big Band song. They will return to the Egyptian Theatre in downtown Coos Bay at 6 pm on Thursday August 6th. Admission is a suggested donation of only $2.00. With admission, those attending will receive a ballot that will allow them to select their favorite performance of the night. This week's "People's Choice" winner will be announced as well.
