These are the results from the July 8th performance and contest of Bay Area Teen Idol:

Tonight’s Music Genre: Contestants Choice

Group Songs Performed: “We’re All In This Together”, “Aquarius”, “In My Room” (Beach Boys), “Heal The World” (Michael Jackson), “Sing A Song” (Earth, Wind & Fire) featuring Jeff Decker on the trumpet.

First Place: Marissa Cato of Coos Bay with her rendition of “Fighter” (Christina Aguilara)

Second Place Tie: Sean O’Connor of North Bend with “Heartache Tonight” (Michael Buble Version) & Corin Wesman of Coquille who performed “Everywhere” (Miranda Lambert)

Bay Area Teen Idol is a Drug Alcohol and Tobacco Free event for Coos County Teens between the ages of 13 and 18. All contestants sign a pledge to remain drug free through the contest. 15 contestants are competing for the title of Bay Area Teen Idol and a $2000 prize package.

Contestants represent cities of Coos Bay, North Bend, Lakeside, Bandon and Coquille. Reigning Bay Area Teen Idol Star Moralez, who performed Aerosmith’s “Cryin’” represents Myrtle Point.

Bay Area Teen Idol is loosely based on American Idol in which contests perform Group and Individual selections. Each individual selection is scored by a panel of Judges and the top scores are announced. Bottom scores result in elimination from the contest.

Judges tonight were: Kathleen Zappelli, Barbara Boots and Dennis Lindahl. All judges have stage and musical performance backgrounds. They are able to evaluate each performance and give critique that the contestants can use to improve their performances the following week.

The next performance of Bay Area Teen Idol is Thursday, July 15th at the Historic Egyptian Theatre. Each show starts at 6pm with the exception of the semi-finals and finals that will be held during the day at two local festivals in downtown Coos Bay. The next music genre is “Country.” Entry is a suggested $2.00 donation.
