Burn to Learn Fire Practice |

The North Bend Fire Department did a practice burn on a house just above the beginning of Brusselss St. in North Bend. The burn was set up to send newer recruits through a real-life situation where they can train for future fires. The North Bend Fire Department holds these training sessions about three to four times a year. In some cases older, more experienced, firefighters will take a run through to stay ready for fires. The houses used for these practiced burns are donated by people in the public who have bought property and need to demolish an existing structure and create a new one. The Fire Department takes these houses and safely burns them down. The actual burning process takes a few hours but the fire site will be 'babysat' overnight to ensure no flames stir back up. Almost 30 firefighters, new and old, crowded the scene making sure all the local firefighters are prepared for real fires in the community and keeping the surrounding community safe from floating sparks and nearby brush from catchign fire.
