Double Fatal Crash N. 10th St. Press Release

On 05-19-10 at around 10:00 P.M. Coos Bay Police Officers responded to multiple reports of a single vehicle crash on N. 10^th Street near the Mingus Park Pool. Upon arrival, the officers found a mangled black Mercedes 4 door resting on its left side against a tree and partially down an embankment. The driver of the vehicle identified as 24 year old Brandon J. Murray was dead on arrival. The front passenger identified as 20 year old Shayohn J. Botts had been partially ejected from the vehicles moon roof and was rushed to Bay Area Hospital in critical condition. Ms. Botts was unable to recover from her injuries and later died at Bay Area Hospital.

The rear passenger identified as 23 month old Keianna J. Lea was also transported to Bay Area Hospital where she is currently listed as stable and in fair condition. The child’s injuries appear to be minimal as a result of the use of a child safety restraint seat. She is being held at the hospital overnight for observation.

According to several witnesses, the vehicle being operated by Mr. Murray was traveling southbound down N 10^th Street at a high rate of speed just before the crash occurred.

Coos Bay Police Officers were assisted by members of the Coos County Crash Team. Members from the Coos County D. A.’s Office, Coos County Sheriff’s Office, and the North Bend Police Department responded to assist.
